HKSYU’s Office of Student Affairs hosted a sharing session with singer Dr Leung Ka-yan (Serrini). In conversation with Dr Ho Ka-chun, Associate Head (Programme) of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Serrini shared how her secondary school life shaped her mental and emotional well-being. She also discussed embracing one’s true self and maintaining psychological health through different stages of life.
Serrini revealed that during her secondary school years, she often reflected on her inner self, wondering, “How do I feel?” and “Why do I experience sadness?” She chose not to conform and found solace in books, music, and films instead. As she grew older, psychological therapy helped her gradually accept herself as a unique individual. She reflected, “Don’t force yourself to be ‘normal.’ There may not be many weird people in the world, but to me, being weird is normal.”
