In 2026, marking Shue Yan University's 55th anniversary, alumnus Damon NG, a banking relationship manager, shared in an interview with Shue Yan Newsletter that the department's culture and atmosphere place a strong emphasis on mutual encouragement. He recalled that the former head of the department frequently emphasised the word "nurture," believing that the English Department has a duty to nurture the next generation. He noted that the department naturally instilled in him the belief that students should be allowed to become "anyone"—that is, to become whatever they aspire to be.
