Alumna Candy LO: Embracing Others' Hearts, Practicing the Way of a Gentleman
In 2026, marking the 55th anniversary of Hong Kong Shue Yan University, alumna Candy LO, Curator of the Museum of Hong Kong Literature, shared in an exclusive interview with Shue Yan Newsletter that the university's motto centers on the character "仁" (benevolence), which emphasises "putting oneself in others' shoes" when handling affairs. Citing HKSYU's two co-founders, Dr Henry Hu Hung-lick and Dr Chung Chi-yung, she noted that back then, witnessing a shortage of university places and limited educational opportunities for young people, the elderly couple decided to fund and establish the university themselves. She pointed out that the founding process of the Museum of Hong Kong Literature was equally arduous, yet its direction aligns with Shue Yan's: providing more platforms for young people.
