Alumna Erica Pursues Counselling Psychology: Exploring the Depths of Human Nature

Alumna Erica Li, who holds multiple roles as a writer, director, screenwriter, and host, has had a desire to pursue truth since childhood. Wanting to explore the truths of the world, she studied philosophy after graduating from secondary school, then switched to journalism to continue seeking the truth. Entering middle age, Erica’s original aspiration remained undiminished; she returned to campus to pursue a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University to explore the true nature of humanity more deeply. The seed to study psychology had long been planted in her heart—she has always wanted to peel back outward appearances to understand people’s most authentic selves: “Sometimes what people say is just the tip of the iceberg. For example, if a man asks a woman out and she doesn’t want to go, she may not state the truth directly but offer an excuse like ‘I’m not feeling well.’ That ‘not feeling well’ is often the tip of the iceberg. The real thoughts and motives behind it—the truth—must be uncovered slowly.”
