Alumnus Derek Lai, who graduated from Shue Yan’s Department of Accounting in 1988, shared in an interview with the Shue Yan Newsletter that the alma mater's motto, "Cultivating virtues of benevolence; broadening horizon and knowledge" (敦仁博物), reflects excellent core values. He explained that "Benevolence" stands for righteousness, while "Broadening horizon" implies caring for all people and things around us—meaning that in life and work, one must possess a benevolent heart and genuine kindness to support every individual in society.
