Alumnus Vicky Wong, winner of the Best Director accolade at the Hong Kong Film Awards, has been nurturing newcomers for the local film industry for many years as an Part-time Senior Lecturer in the Department of Journalism and Communication at his alma mater. In 2023, Wong shared his teaching insights in an article written for the July issue of the department's publication, SYUJC Newsletter. He mentioned that when teaching, he often cites the life philosophy of the legendary film director Johnnie To—"Passion, Mission, and Vision." He believes students must be full of passion for their work, possess a sense of mission regarding their creations, and, above all, have their own perspective. He further pointed out that as long as students love their work, maintain professionalism, and "play" seriously, they are bound to produce works with true vision.
